Ghost or Pumpkin Plagues

We are getting ready for our Halloween party! The house is a mess. I have no idea what I am serving but I have decorated. This is my mantle. The ghost and pumpkins plagues are made of vinyl pieces I bought on Groopdealz. I wish I could remember where they came from.

I painted these wooden plagues orange and white and added the vinyl. They turned out great I think!
Love the spiders too! I bought them at Michael's. They are from Martha Stewart crafts. Very easy to attach to my mirror. I also have some climbing in the windows. Closer to the party I'll put up some spider webs. My daughter has requested a lot of spiders!

Added orange lights and this spider garland I made last year. I weaved a ribbon through the ring part of the spider rings. Very simple but I like the look of the little spiders climbing on my mantle.

Mitchell's License and Annabelle's Fits of Giggles

It has been quite awhile since I've written about a children's book I love. It has probably been nearly as long since I've read a book to Annabelle that has had her giggling as much as this book did.
Mitchell's License by Hallie Durand is the story of a little boy, Mitchell, who doesn't want to go to bed. That is until he receives his "license" and a "car". He then drives his car to bed.
The text of the story describes Mitchell kicking his new cars tires, giving his car oil and avoiding crashes, the illustrations show Mitchell "driving" his father around narrowingly avoiding collisions with his mother and forcing his father to drink water from a sippy cup.
Annabelle was in hysterics! It is immensely clever and one of a kind!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

Today my little boy turns 2!

Has it really been that long?
He's grown so much from that tiny baby I held in my arms.
He's learned to walk and run. He's talking more and more everyday. Before you know it we'll be writing college admission applications. (With a little help from the writing faculty!)

He always has a smile on his face! He loves his big sister. He loves trains and hockey. He has been asking all of us to "play hockey" with him. He is a little bit shy and more cautious than his big sister. But is always full of surprises!

Happy birthday to my little man! I love you so much! I have loved watching you grow up and can't wait for the next year of your life to begin.

Craft for kids: coffee filter Easter eggs

I found this fun idea on Crafty Crow. I cut coffee filters into egg shapes. The kids had fun using watercolors to decorate them.

Ruffle Fabric Easter Egg Shirt

Ruffle Fabric Easter Egg Shirt
I've been itching to use this great fabric I ordered from Ruffle Fabric and I think I found the perfect project.

These two little Easter eggs made out of Ruffle Fabric put a smile on my little girls face today. And of course I had to add a little ribbon rosette!

She couldn't wait to put it on this morning!

My camera battery died on me so I couldn't photograph this and write up a tutorial for you. Go visit Positively Splendid for the basic idea. Hers is a little different because she makes the ruffles for the shirt while my ruffles are pre-made!! Her tutorial is great!

I cut out the egg shapes from the ruffle fabric and sewed them on. Pretty simple.

Thanks for visiting today!
I'm linking up to the parties in my link parties tab.

Book Page Easter Eggs

Book Page Easter Eggs
This project was inspired by an Inspire Me Monday entry. If it was yours can you please let me know so I can link to you. I can't seem to find it now.
I've been trying to get this post written for weeks. I had a lot of fun making these eggs. I love using Mod Podge.

If you want to make some of your own you'll need some book pages, leftover plastic Easter eggs, Mod Podge and a brush.

Tear your book pages into strips of paper. Apply Mod Podge to egg and add your strip of paper. Cover the paper with Mod Podge.

Continue until your eggs are covered.

At first I added two two-inch fabric flowers (available here) but I didn't like how they looked.

So I added some rick rack and some little rick rick rosettes. Much better.

Happy Easter all! Have a great weekend with your families.
I am linking up to the parties on my tab.

Children's Art Project: Sun or Something Yellow

Children's Art projects: Sun or Yellow on a paper plate

Annabelle's finished project, age 4.

Dashiell's finished project, age 2.

Annabelle turned these hand prints into flowers. She surprises me all the time when she comes up with these ideas.
Of course, Dashiell loved this idea. Any excuse to make a mess!

Craft Book Review: Crafting a Meaningful Home

Crafting a Meaningful Home:
27 DIY Projects to Tell Stories, Hold Memories, and Celebrate Family Heritage.
by Meg Mateo Ilasco

The title of this book got me right off. "Crafting a Meaningful Home" sounds like what we all dream of doing. One of my New Year's Resolutions was to take more pictures of my kids and to DO something with them. Most of them are either on Facebook or, if they do get printed, stuck in a drawer somewhere. What a shame!
I thought this book would help me!
And it has. It's full of inspiring ideas and projects to make crafting more meaningful. What does that mean?
Well, I craft for many reasons.
To make money.
To run a business that is profitable enough for me to one day work from home. To tap into the creative side of my sleep-deprived brain.
To make something pretty that makes my daughter happy.
Mostly because it makes me happy!

I don't feel my projects have "meaning" however.

The projects in this book have meaning. Lots of it.

What I liked:
The whole idea of making meaningful crafts really inspires me. To hang something on my wall that I made that also holds my family's memories is so appealing to me. All of the projects are pretty simple too. No hard sewing patterns or hard to follow directions.
I also really liked the bios of the crafters that each project was from. It's always fun to learn about other crafters and what inspires them.

What I didn't like:
Nothing really! Maybe a few more projects but otherwise it is great.

Projects I will try:
I have always wanted to try to make silhouettes of my kids. There's a great silhouettes on canvas project I may try.
I always really like the Button Garland project. I have a bunch of buttons I found in my Grandma's sewing stuff that would make a really nice garland. It's a pretty simple project that would make a great display and memento of my grandmother.

Thanks for stopping by!
