Interview with Etsy Seller For Any Occasion

I am doing a special series this month of interviews with Moms who are also etsy sellers. Since I took the plunge to be a work at home mom, I thought I would turn to other Moms on Etsy and ask them how they do it. This is the first interview. Enjoy!

I'd like to introduce Shirley from For Any Occasion and The Orange Windmill

1. What is your shop name and what do you sell?
I have two shops. For Any Occasion sells paper crafts. The Orange Windmill sells handmade leather journals.

2. How many children do you have and how old are they?
I have two children. Alexander is 3 and Isabel is 8 months. My husband and I originally wanted to have 6 children, but that number is dwindling down to 3 or 4. Well, one kid at a time, right (hopefully)?

3. How do your children inspire you to create?
I started For Any Occasion with the goal in mind to earn enough money to send my children to Christian school. So my children inspire and push me to create, since I can see the future that I want for them.

4. What is your daily schedule?
In the mornings, we go for walks around the neighbourhood, usually going to the playground down the road - Alexander really loves swings and slides, and Isabel really loves watching him! After lunch, the kids have nap time (which usually ends up being only quiet time, since they don't like to nap). This is when I have time to catch up on my messages, create, blog, etc. The rest of my day is filled with the duties and responsibilities of being a housewife and stay at home mom. That is, until after the kids are down for the night. Then I go crazy and do more designing and creating. I'm usually up until at least midnight - I'm a total night owl! A crazy night owl.

5. What is the biggest challenge of a work at home mom?
Finding time! As any working mom with toddlers will know, finding the time create is the biggest challenge. I'm sure that will change once the kids go to school, but right now, it's finding time. And keeping Alexander out of my work space - he just has to have something all the time!

6. What is the best piece of advice for other moms?
A lot of the time I feel like I am the one who needs the advice, not give it! But if there was anything, I would have to say keep your goals in the back burner of your mind all the time. I know that it gets really difficult to find the time and the energy to do all the things that you want to do (and need to do). When my goals are there in the back of my mind, I am able to prioritize my time in a way that is productive and beneficial.

Thanks Shirley! Beautiful products and great advice. I will definitely need to work on prioritizing.

  1. Wow! Thanks so much for the feature, Julie! :) I'll spread the word!

  2. How does one be so lucky to be interviewed? I would love it if you interviewed me and my etsy store.
